MiniDV to Digital

MiniDV arrived in the late 1990s and became the everyday camcorder tape for a generation of parents. It was the first widely-used digital video tape — crisp for its time — but it's still a physical cassette, and the tiny tape inside can suffer dropouts, sticking and mould as the decades pass. The camcorders that played them are now hard to find in working order.
We capture MiniDV on proper studio decks to preserve that digital picture faithfully, checking each transfer back for the glitches and dropouts these tapes are prone to. Your footage becomes a clean, high-quality MP4, and your small tapes are returned to you afterwards.
Choose a download, a USB stick, a hard drive, or a private Family Gallery to share with the family. Drop off in Collingwood or post from anywhere in Australia — tracked to us and tracked home again.
$35.00 per tape
Flat price, every format. Blank or unreadable tapes are always refunded.
Common questions
My MiniDV camcorder no longer works — can you still read the tapes?
Yes. You don't need a working camera; we play MiniDV on our own studio equipment, so all we need is the tapes themselves.
Some of my MiniDV footage stutters or drops out — can that be helped?
Often. We use decks made for these tapes and capture carefully to minimise dropouts. Where a fault is on the tape itself, we'll rescue as much as we can and tell you honestly.
